Task 9- LA Halloween Party

We were given a budget of £500 to spend on a costume and makeup for a celebrity that is attending a Halloween party in Los Angeles. The celebrity we chose was none other than the beautiful Angelina Jolie who, in  light of her latest film, we dressed as the Disney villain Maleficent.
Here is what we spent on each item she wore:

Screenface are a SPFX Makeup company based down in London which stock many  types makeup from different makeup companies such as Kryolan, Ben Nye, Dermacolour and many more. This company was started by makeup artist Magdalen Gaffney Danvers who's work has featured in many films over a 40 year period.

Screenface's makeup has been in hundreds of famous films such as Indiana Jones, Harry Potter and Monty Python.

 

 

 

 

Screenface's products are currently being used in many West End productions such as the Lion King and London Fashion Week.

 

 

They are currently offering Halloween Make Overs to customers to get ready for the Halloween season.

Questions I would ask Scottish Make Up Artists

The top 3 Make Up Artists currently in Scotland are Lynne Mills, Ana Cruzalegui and Fiona Reeves, definetely some of my favourites. Just like myself they all started somewhere, so I have decided to put together 5 questions that i would ask these MUA's.

Question 1- What is the best way to get into the professional Make Up industry?

Question 2- Is it better to start in low budget productions or jump straight into big films?

Task 4

 Johnny Depp as Sweeney Todd in the Tim Burton adaption of "Sweeney Todd: Demon Barber of Fleet Street". What I love about this make up is how it makes Depp looked aged and sallow after serving time as a convict in Australia. The white stripe in his hair gives the idea of a Frankenstein look. The red under his eyes helps to make his eyes look bigger, almost like they are hanging out of his head. Contouring around his temples and face make his face appear gaunt and almost skull like.

 Lord Voldemort, one of my favourite villains from any film. His make-up is created as JK Rowling described, almost snake like. He has the bald, pale appearance of an old man, with veins to show his age. His small eyes, flat noes and thing lips give him a snake-like look, helping to show that he is an evil character and altogether helps his overall look to look more terrifying.

The Headless Horseman is a timeless evil villain, made even more frightening by Tim Burton in his adaption of Sleepy Hollow. Burton's use of white make up and pale contacts lenses helps to add to the Horseman's creepy look. The use of pointed teeth gives a demonic feel.

 Sloth from The Goonies. he is shown to begin with as something to be frightened of due to his appearance, the use of prosthetics helps to add to his look and helps us to almost feel sorry for him towards the end of the film.

Thranduil from The Hobbit has a very regal appearance, his pale skin and hair contrast with his dark eyebrows, giving him an angelic but serious look. It also helps with  his overall elf look, as it makes the actor look very angelic and gentle.

One of my favourite wigs from any film is Frenchie's from Grease where she has had a "little trouble in tinting class"

 The wig helps to add to her scatterbrained character and is ironic as she describes only having a "little trouble" when in facts she's dyed her hair pink.

Linda from Gimme Gimme Gimme, one of my favourite characters from my favourite TV show (they don't air it anymore sadly). Her wig shows her overall personality, crazy, and is a mixture of mad frizzy curls and a very straight fringe that has bleached blonde streaks in it.

Morticia Addams from the Addam's family is shown to be very dark and mysterious. Her wig helps to add to this. It acts almost like a shadow around her, framing her face and helping her pale face to stand out.

Task Threeeeee

Question 1- What were your expectations on starting the course? 
That it would be mostly make up and lots of theory, I didn't expect to have to be working with hair as extensively as we are, there's a lot of practical which I like.
                 

Question 2- What are your initial thoughts on West College Scotland and the Media make up course?
Everybody is really nice, it's a very intense course and I've seen my own make-up skills improve because of it. Especially hair.



Question 3- What is your funniest moment of college life so far? 
Thinking that I was still fit enough to go up the stairs at 9 am on a Tuesday morning. Turns out I'm not very fit at all.












Question 4- What is the most interesting thing you have learned or learned how to do so far? 
How to make prosthetic pieces, I've always wanted to know how to make them, it's a lot easier and faster than I thought it would be.

Question 5- Who is your make up idol?
Marilyn Monroe, Jane Russell.... any star of the 50's/60's. My make-up artist idol would be Dick Smith or Allan Snyder

Question 6- Why do you want to be a MUA? 

I would like to take my skills into a real career and travel around the world and meet different people (hopefully Johnny Depp), I think it is a very fulfilling career to be in and one I can see myself being happy in.
